Special Education

The Baldwin Park Unified School District (BPUSD) Special Education Department is a division within the Office of Student Achievement, responsible for the leadership, administration, and supervision of special education services. Our department provides a range of programs, supports, and services designed to ensure equitable access and educational success for students with disabilities.

Services and supports are determined based on individual student needs and eligibility, in accordance with state and federal laws, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and California Education Code. BPUSD is committed to offering a continuum of services that address the unique educational, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of each student. Eligible students may receive services from age three (3) through twenty-one (21), up to their 22nd birthday.

BPUSD joins fifteen other school districts to form the East San Gabriel Valley Special Education Local Plan Area (ESGV SELPA). While most students receive services within BPUSD, some students may participate in regionalized programs operated by other districts within the SELPA to better meet their specific needs. These placements ensure that every student has access to appropriate services in the least restrictive environment.
