AVID Program
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a college and career readiness program designed to help middle and high school students develop the skills they need to be successful in postsecondary education and beyond. Our mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.
AVID Overview
1. Program Goals:
The AVID program aims to provide students with the necessary tools and support to excel academically and develop a mindset geared toward success in higher education and their future careers.
2. Students:
AVID targets middle and high school students who are in the academic middle and have the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard. These students often have the potential but may lack the support and guidance needed to achieve their goals.
3. Curriculum and Strategies:
AVID's curriculum is designed to foster critical thinking, literacy, and math skills across all content areas. It includes: Writing,Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading.
4. AVID Elective Class:
Students enrolled in the AVID elective class receive additional support, including academic coaching, mentorship, and personalized academic planning. The elective class emphasizes skills such as organization, study strategies, and critical thinking.
