Message from Superintendent Mendoza – May 2, 2025

Dear Baldwin Park Unified Families and Staff,

I want to share an update with our broader Baldwin Park community and express my deepest gratitude, as we move forward from the events of this week. The situation that began at Olive Middle School yesterday morning, came to a conclusion late Thursday evening.

We can confirm that no students were harmed, and we are grateful that all students and staff remained safe due to the prompt evacuation. In the late evening, law enforcement took action to remove the individual involved, a BPUSD employee, from campus and provided the needed care. We are working closely with the Baldwin Park Police Department as the investigation continues.

District leadership is continuing to work closely with Olive Middle School staff, supporting their needs and coordinating next steps. Our focus remains on ensuring a safe, supported return to school.

At this time, we are preparing for Olive Middle School to resume classes on Monday, May 5, 2025, should the campus be fully cleared. Out of care for our school community, the following measures are being put in place for Olive Middle School:

  • Mental health support services will be available for all students and staff on campus, with on-site resources to ensure a safe and caring environment.
  • Additional District personnel will be on campus to support both staff and students as they transition back.

We also want to remind our entire BPUSD community that free, confidential mental health resources are available to anyone—regardless of school site—through our District partners:

Thank you for standing united in our shared commitment to the safety, care, and well-being of our students, families, and staff. We are deeply grateful to the Baldwin Park Police Department,  law enforcement officers, and first responders. As well as our school employees, community partners, and parents’ patience and compassion during this time.

As we enter the last month of the school year, let us remember the importance of caring for one another and moving forward with empathy.

With sincere appreciation,

Dr. Froilan N. Mendoza
