Baldwin Park Unified Board Members Take Oath of Office

BALDWIN PARK – Baldwin Park Unified held an Oath of Office Ceremony on Dec. 10. for returning Board of Education member Betsabel Lara and newly elected members Deanna Coronado Robles and Robert Guzman Varela.

During the organizational meeting, Board of Education member Christina Lucero was nominated as board president and Lara was selected to serve as vice president and clerk.

Lara, long-time educator and Baldwin Park resident, first was appointed to the Board of Education in January and elected Nov. 6.

Robles attended Tracy Elementary and Sierra Vista Junior High and graduated from Sierra Vista High School. Varela, who has lived in the District for many years, is a retired school teacher.

“The District is grateful to our Board of Education for supporting our mission and ensuring high achievement for all learners,” Superintendent Dr. Froilan N. Mendoza said.

Also serving on the board is member Santos Hernandez, Jr.

Robles and Varela succeed members Teresa I. Vargas, who served for nine years, and Diana E. Dzib, who served on the board since 2017.

“We are appreciative for Ms. Vargas’ and Mrs. Dzib’s many contributions,” Dr. Mendoza said. “BPUSD will continue to put the best interests of our students first and continue to implement rigorous, well-rounded programs that meet their educational needs.”
