How to Plan a Student Study Trip -- by Angela A. Salazar

In order to organize a student study trip, employees must follow specific guidelines derived from Board Policy and Administrative Regulations.  There are specific requirements for field trips that must be met in order to be approved.  The following documents were designed to assist staff members with the planning of a trip.
  1. Board Item Submission Form - A chart that explains the different types of trips and the approval deadlines for each type.
  2. Field Trip Checklist - A form that helps identify what things must be addressed during the planning phase, such as number of chaperones or medical needs of students.
  3. Overnight Field Trip Planning Sheet - A mandatory form that must be submitted to the Student Achievement Office indicating travel arrangements, lodgings, and other unique aspects of overnight trips.
  4. Field Trip Behavior Contract - A contract that can be modified to inform students of the expectations during an overnight trip.
Please be advised that ALL student study trips must be pre-approved by the principal and most trips also require Board approval.  Fundraising and parent meetings specific to the trip should not occur until approval has been attained.  We appreciate your cooperation following these guidelines so every off-campus learning experience has the best safety and security measures.
