History-Social Science Adoption Process -- by Christine R. Heinrichs

This year BPUSD is conducting the textbook adoption process for a new History-Social Science curriculum which will be implemented during the 2019-2020 school year. Adoption committee members have been working diligently this Fall to review programs according to rigorous criteria.  In mid-December, after the committees select programs for each grade span, the recommended materials will be displayed for community review.

The goal is to complete the adoption process and make a recommendation to the Board of Education by mid-Winter in time for History-Social Science teachers to receive training at the Spring Professional Development Day on April 12, 2019. We are eager to update our curriculum to support the teaching of the History-Social Science Framework as well as the standards for ELA & Literacy in History/Social Studies. Instruction in social studies promotes the reading, critical thinking, and problem solving skills of students, enhancing their achievement and preparing them for college, 21st century careers, and citizenship.
