English Learner Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) -- by Maria C. Rios

The Initial ELPAC is the new assessment all new students will take within 30 days of enrollment if identified as bilingual on the enrollment form.  The Initial ELPAC assessment is a short assessment that cannot be used to determine the students' ELD levels. The Initial ELPAC will only determine if a student is a fluent English speaker or an English Learner. All identified English Learners will also need to take the Summative ELPAC in the Spring of 2019.  Once administered, the assessments will be scored by the English Learner Program Assistants (ELPAs) and these official scores will be used to determine the students' language proficiency levels.

For more information about the ELPAC, go to the website at https://www.elpac.org/   It contains practice tests and sample score reports to help you understand the specific aspects of this new assessment.

Thank you for your continued support of our English Learners.
