Baldwin Park Unified Recognizes Summer Interns for Workforce Achievements

The recognition highlighted the District’s ongoing partnership with the City of Baldwin Park, New Ways to Work, Goodwill Southern California, Los Angeles County America’s Job Center of California (AJCC), and the Baldwin Park Business Association. Together, the agencies have launched the NextGen Youth Workforce Program for a third year, providing high school students and young adults ages 14-24 with opportunities for job preparation, mentorship, and career exploration.

Through the AJCC Youth Work Program, Baldwin Park Unified offered career-oriented experiences that advanced ETS departmental initiatives while providing students with hands-on exposure to the field of information technology. Six students were selected through the District’s Career Fair to participate in the summer 2025 internship, where they contributed to mission-critical projects and engaged in a comprehensive curriculum that included shadowing engineers, attending planning sessions, and completing a capstone project.

The interns presented video recaps of their summer projects at the meeting and received certificates of recognition from the Board of Education. Their work ranged from producing public service announcements on phishing scams and the risks of overreliance on artificial intelligence, to developing detailed network diagrams to support disaster recovery efforts, to using AutoCAD to create a safety map of the District Office.

This year’s ETS interns included:

  • Saul Jared Mares, Baldwin Park High School graduate
  • Jacqueline Loera, Baldwin Park High School DLAB graduate
  • Brianna Lugo, Baldwin Park High School graduate
  • Camila Valentina Hernandez Rivera, Baldwin Park High School senior
  • Abraham Diaz, Sierra Vista High School graduate
  • Sebastian Camacho, Baldwin Park High School senior

The program provided the interns with exposure to design thinking, problem-solving, and workplace collaboration while equipping them with skills to support their academic and career pathways.
