Baldwin Park High School Club Brings Students Peer-based Support

Baldwin Park High School students are connecting with each other and navigating their coursework together as part of the school’s student-run club, Scholar Support.

This school year, the club received a makeover from BPHS senior Nhi Doan, student representative for the Board of Education, after she saw the challenges that her classmates faced when returning to in-person learning in 2021.

Braves alumna and Class of 2020 graduate Kendra Nguyen originally founded the club in 2019 as a way to assist Advanced Placement (AP) students with their heavy workloads.

“While struggling myself, I decided to form a place where students could receive as much help as possible,” Doan said. “This club not only provides academic assistance but, also serves as a safe and quiet getaway.”

Scholar Support currently serves 25 members and welcomes students from all grade levels to join throughout the school year. The club meets at lunchtime on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Seniors have also utilized the time in Scholar Support to fill out and submit their college applications. Doan, who plans to pursue a career in medicine or engineering, has worked with her peers while in the club to meet those application deadlines.
