BPUSD Appoints 2020-21 Student Board Members

Baldwin Park Unified has welcomed student board members for the 2020-21 academic year: Kohle Jackson from Baldwin Park High School, John Ramos from North Park Continuation High School and Jade Magallanes from Sierra Vista High School.

The seniors were introduced during the District’s Board of Education meeting on Sept. 22.

Jackson, a stellar student in Advanced Placement and honors courses, serves as president of the National Honor Society (NHS) and varsity captain of the Braves tennis team. She is an alumna of the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) LA and World Leadership Congress (WLC) and interned this year for the Children of War Foundation, working to develop and implement the first UN-approved homeless initiative.

As an avid artist who enjoys painting and drawing in her free-time, Jackson also designs apparel that promotes cultural awareness for online retailer, 2020Xperience.

When Ramos first moved to Baldwin Park, he began his high school experience at Sierra Vista High. He then transferred to North Park, where he serves as a student leader on campus and enjoys playing basketball and football with classmates.

With a passion for animals, Ramos plans to attend Michigan State University to study biology or business, and eventually study veterinary medicine.

“I am honored to be the student board representative for NPCHS, and I would like to thank everyone for the opportunity,” Ramos said.

Magallanes holds four executive board positions for student clubs at Sierra Vista High School, including NAMI Club (National Alliance on Mental Illness), Key Club, AVID and Women’s Empowerment.

Prior to the pandemic, Magallanes interned at St. Francis Hospital. She plans to attend Loyola Marymount University, and later UCLA’s School of Medicine to become a pediatrician.

“We are delighted to welcome our student board members who have displayed leadership and a drive for high achievement,” Dr. Froilan N. Mendoza said. “Our student board members serve as the voices of Baldwin Park Unified’s student body, and it is of the highest importance that students feel seen and heard.”
