Student Achievement Programs

The Baldwin Park Unified School District is committed to the goal of achieving academic excellence through an instructional program which takes pride in developing each child’s full potential while recognizing his or her uniqueness.

The school district is committed to assessment as a continuous process which focuses upon improving the quality and rate of learning of all students. To achieve this result, each classroom teacher is provided with necessary resources, support, and professional development. Daily instruction provides ongoing feedback trough observation, projects, teacher made tests, portfolios, and writing samples.

The Board of Education has established goals and objectives with special emphasis on early literacy intervention, technology, school to career, and the development of a well articulated K-12 curriculum, driven by a high content and performance standards.

The entire educational community accepts the challenge of positive change and the need to equip our students with the skills and knowledge for an ever-changing world. We create engaging, meaningful learning experiences by supporting and encouraging excellent teaching and the educational growth of students and staff. There is an on-going partnership between schools, families and the community. We all work together for the educational benefit of the children. Our expectation is that each elementary student will become a proficient reader, writer and problem solver. We have a balanced comprehensive approach to reading based on recommendations form “Teaching Reading” Program Advisory, California State Task Force Report, and “Building a Powerful Reading Program: From Research to Practice.”

Students’ needs are addressed through flexible groupings and interdisciplinary studies which are student-centered. School staffs work cooperatively with families and the community to provide a safe, caring, and stimulating environment. The middle school and junior high programs focus on basic skills, reviewing and re-teaching as needed. Departmental organization and staffing allow students to explore a more varied curriculum. Our comprehensive high school instructional program provides course work and instruction appropriate for the aspirations of all students. In order to challenge students to seek additional formal studies, college preparation programs are emphasized. Test scores and follow-up studies indicate that a high quality of preparation exists.

Vocational programs for those seeking immediate employment after graduation are offered through the Career Pathways Program. They are supplemented by an outstanding array of advanced Regional Occupation Programs and adult education courses.

Career Centers and counselors in the high school assist students and parents in their efforts to make the most of the high school experience.

Elective courses and co-curricular activities are available for the Gifted and Talented students, and a full continuum of special education services is also available.
